Joint Task Force-Bravo celebrates Groundhog Day with 5k fun run/walk

By Ana Fonseca Joint Task Force-Bravo Public Affairs Office

More than 200 Joint Task Force-Bravo members participated in the "Groundhog Day 5k run/walk" here today. Top hats and Groundhog Day themed headpieces were handed out before the race.

The race was organized by the Army Support Activity's (ASA) Department of Family Morale Welfare and Recreation. The MWR coordinated with JTF-Bravo's Joint Security Forces, the 612th Air Base Wing and the Medical Element to ensure the event was a success.

The five-kilometer course started in front of the swimming pool parking lot, turned at the JTF-Bravo wash racks and ended back in the parking lot in front of the swimming pool.

"The weather was perfect for running," said U.S. Army Major Brad Miller, Joint Task Force-Bravo J3. "It was a great opportunity for everyone to represent the Task Force and build cohesion."

The first 10 of almost 200 participants to cross the finish line did it in less than 20 minutes, just to go back on the course to encourage their fellow service members still running and walking. Others cheered from the sidelines, showing that Joint Task Force-Bravo is a true "team of teams".

"The turnout was excellent; when I first got here we would only give out about 100 t-shirts per run and today we've given out more than 200," said U.S. Army Col. John Sena, Army Support Activity commander. "That's very significant."
