The Joint Task Force-Bravo Medical Element is the only forward deployed medical asset with an enduring presence in the U.S. Southern Command. MEDEL consists of U.S. soldiers and civilians, as well as Honduran professionals working together to provide a wide range of health care services to DoD personnel as well as support humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts directed by SOUTHCOM in the area of operations.
MEDEL consists of a dental clinic, pharmacy, patient administration, laboratory, preventive medicine, radiology, medical maintenance, medical supply, personnel administrative center, unit supply, emergency medical technicians, aviation medicine and operations.
MEDEL also provides a wide range of health care services through Medical Readiness Training Exercises in Central America, while providing health service support and mobile surgical teams to US Forces deployed throughout the area of operations. The focus of these missions has been everything from basic preventive medicine and immunizations, to complex limb reconstructions.
