Retalhuleu, Guatemala –
U.S. Southern Command’s Joint Task Force-Bravo, a unit based out of Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, arrives in Guatemala on August 15 to conduct a community medical mission at Instituto Nacional de Educación Básica Arana Osorio from August 18 through August 20, 2025.
Services offered during the three-day activity will include ophthalmology, dentistry, general medicine, laboratory testing, and sexually transmitted disease prevention counseling, benefiting 900 people each day.
An opening ceremony will be held on August 18in Retalhuleu. Key organizations participating in the opening ceremony include the Guatemalan 4th Infantry Brigade, the Ministries of Education and Health, the Governor of Retalhuleu, and Joint Task Force-Bravo representatives.
JTF-Bravo also helped renovate the kitchen of the Retalhuleu National Hospital and will launch a cement floor project for 10 families in Aldea Flores in Retalhuleu municipality as part of the United Hands for Healthy Floors initiative, which aims to improve living conditions, reduce illegal migration, and support the dignified reintegration of Guatemalan deportees and voluntary returnees.
Supporting Guatemalan health efforts represents the spirit of service and everyone’s role in building stronger communities in the region, and to reintegrate returnees.
Through its medical missions, JTF-Bravo delivers critical humanitarian aid and disaster relief support in times of crisis and to help prepare for unforeseen disasters. These joint exercises with local communities strengthen relationships with Central American host nations by demonstrating U.S. commitment to regional stability and cooperation.
These missions not only provide immediate health benefits but also foster goodwill, mutual respect, and collaboration between the U.S. military and local communities, helping to enhance long-term regional security.
