1-228th Aviation Regiment visits orphans

By 1st Lt. Michael Pierce Joint Task Force-Bravo's 1-228th Aviation Regiment

Members of 1-228th Aviation Regiment visited San Antonio Padua Boy's home in the village of La Paz, Honduras, Sept. 21.

The volunteers left for the village early Saturday morning for an afternoon of sports and food at the boy's home. 1-228th makes regular visits to the boys' home to provide mentorship and food with the children.

"My favorite part about our visits is how excited the kids are to see us," said U.S. Army Capt. Vicente Alcivar, 1-228th chaplain and coordinator of the event. "These young men will remember these visits and I hope the mentorship our service members provide will have a lasting impact on them.

After an afternoon of games, the 1-228th members served hamburgers and hotdogs to more than 40 children from the home and local neighborhood.

"It's great to get out and play with the kids," said U.S. Army Lt. Col. E.J. Irvin II, the 1-228th Aviation Regiment commander. "I think events like these make everyone feel a little closer to home."

Toward the end of the day, the boys received haircuts from the service members and as a grand finale activity; everyone had the chance to swing at a piñata.
