Turkey trot at Joint Task Force-Bravo

By Ana Fonseca Joint Task Force-Bravo's Public Affairs Office

Joint Task Force-Bravo members participated in the "2013 MWR Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run & Walk" to kick off the Thanksgiving Day celebrations here today.

The race was organized by the Army Support Activity's (ASA) Department of Family Morale Welfare and Recreation. The MWR coordinated with JTF-Bravo's Joint Security Forces, the 612th Air Base Wing and the Medical Element to ensure the event was a success.

"We're very glad everyone was able to come out and kick-off the Thanksgiving Day celebrations," said Ms. Joanne Geer, MWR Director. "We want everyone to exercise before they overeat!"

The five-kilometer course started in front of the swimming pool parking lot, turned at the JTF-Bravo wash racks and ended back in the parking lot in front of the swimming pool. The first person to cross the finish line, less than 16 minutes after the race started, was U.S. Army Sgt. Robert Bruce, Chief of Force Protection for JTF-Bravo.

"I like participating in these events because it provides a good spirit," said Bruce. "I wanted to finish as quickly as possible, so I could turn around and go motivate everyone. It's fun being motivated and to motivate everyone. This is also my last race before I leave Honduras, so I'm just glad to be involved."

Runners and walkers motivated each other throughout the run and afterwards. Two members of MEDEL providing medical support to all participants decided to take part of the event as well and did it with their gear on.

"We ran with our rucksacks on, they each contain 55lbs of medical supplies," said U.S. Army Spc. Drew Danner, EMT assigned to MEDEL.

The "2013 MWR Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run & Walk" showed that Joint Task Force-Bravo is a true "team of teams".
