SOTO CANO AIR BASE, Honduras –
More than 100 Joint Task Force-Bravo members participated in the "2013 Jingle Bell 5K Run & Walk" here today. Jingle bells bracelets were given out before the race started to enhance everyone's holiday outfits and spirit.
The race was organized by the Army Support Activity's (ASA) Department of Family Morale Welfare and Recreation. The MWR coordinated with JTF-Bravo's Joint Security Forces, the 612th Air Base Wing and the Medical Element to ensure the event was a success.
The five-kilometer course started in front of the swimming pool parking lot, turned at the JTF-Bravo wash racks and ended back in the parking lot in front of the swimming pool.
The first person to cross the finish line completed the course in less than 21 minutes, demonstrating that although the holidays are just around the corner, physical fitness remains a priority for all service members.
U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Brigham Moore, 612 Air Base Squadron Chief of Engineering, chose to fill his backpack with more than 35lbs of engineering books and wear it while participating in the 2013 Jingle Bell run.
"I ran for fun," said Moore. "I had never run with a backpack on, so I thought 'why not?' and decided to give it a try."
Many runners and walkers decided to go back on the course after finishing the run to encourage their fellow service members whom had yet to make it to the finish line. Others cheered from the sidelines, showing that Joint Task Force-Bravo is a true "team of teams".
"I enjoy these runs," said U.S. Air Force Capt. Zach Anderson, Joint Task Force-Bravo Public Affairs Director and third person to cross the finish line. "It gives the members of Joint Task Force-Bravo something fun to do together as one team that's different than a morning PT session. The runs really help to enhance camaraderie as well as promote physical fitness."
