SOTO CANO AIR BASE, Honduras –
Joint Task Force-Bravo's Army Forces Battalion (ARFOR) hosted a fun Saturday to 34 boys and with five adult chaperones from Horizontes al Futuro orphanage in Comayagua, August 20.
The event was an opportunity for many servicemembers to interact with the boys for the first time. U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Michael Graham, Army Forces Battalion operations non-commissioned officer-in-charge and orphanage coordinator, stated the visit was successful and enjoyable for both kids and adults.
"I really enjoyed the pool activity due to the fact last time they were on base (last May), the pool was unavailable due to repairs," said Graham.
The servicemembers, who volunteered to participate in this activity, and kids enjoyed a pizza party lunch and refreshments, as well as playing soccer, basketball, swimming in the base pool, watching a movie and other outdoor activities.
"I was able to share with the kids and despite the language barrier, we had a great time," said U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 3 Albert Dixon, maintenance coordinator. "I'm very grateful for the opportunity to share with these kids."
JTF-Bravo service members regularly participate in numerous community engagements within Honduras; providing support to orphanages and local villages. JTF-Bravo personnel has supported more than 2,000 children at seven different orphanages in Honduras since the early 1990's, spending time interacting with the children, donating much-needed supplies, and doing construction work on the buildings in which the children live.
