SOTO CANO AIR BASE, Honduras-- –
Joint Task Force-Bravo leaders recently donated photographic equipment to journalism students at Universitario Regional del Centro, Comayagua, Honduras.
Air Force Lt. Col. Lawrence Ott, JTF-Bravo deputy commander, presented an assortment of lenses and digital and 35mm cameras to the students at a small ceremony prior to class.
The students will use the equipment furthering their pursuit of academic degrees.
Colonel Ott said the equipment was made available using a Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service program which allows for the donation of equipment no longer needed by the military to state and local governments and other qualified organizations.
"We use this program so the local community can have access to equipment that might not otherwise be available to them," he said.
"This donation to the university builds our relationship with the local community and it's also a great opportunity to encourage the pursuit of secondary education and enhance these journalism students' efforts," Colonel Ott said.
Before the donation, students often used their own equipment to support their photojournalism training.
"This donation is great," said Anabel Lira, a third year journalism student at the university. "Previously we didn't have this type of equipment because it is too expensive and our institution wouldn't be able to obtain it."
