SOTO CANO AIR BASE, Honduras –
Joint Task Force-Bravo, together with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), assisted Honduran authorities in a successful drug interdiction July 21 in Gracias a Dios, Honduras.
The Hondurans seized 473 kilograms of cocaine, 12 barrels of fuel, two satellite phones, two global positioning system units, three boats, one generator, airfield lights and a Piper PA-31 Navajo aircraft.
There were no individuals captured and no injuries during the operation.
"I'm pleased that we were able to assist Honduras and help them reach this victory in the fight against illicit trafficking," said Army Col. Gregory Reilly, the JTF-Bravo commander. "The drug interdiction shows how our various international agencies can all work together to achieve success."
The successful drug interdiction was made possible by the coordinated efforts of the Honduran Security Ministry, National Police, the Honduran Armed Forces, the DEA, JTF-Bravo and Joint Interagency Task Force-South.
JTF-Bravo, based out of Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, supports partner nations in Central America in the multinational, interagency efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region. In 2009, JTF-Bravo's counter-illicit trafficking actions contributed to the seizure of 1,600 kilograms of cocaine, two twin-engine aircraft, two "go-fast" boats, four trucks and two electric generators.
The mission of JTF-Bravo is to conduct joint, combined and interagency operations and to support contingency operations throughout Central America in order to enhance security and prosperity in the region. In addition to counterdrug operations, JTF-Bravo regularly conducts humanitarian and civic assistance missions, combined training exercises and disaster relief operations in Central America.
