SOTO CANO AIR BASE, Honduras –
Fuerte Mocoron, Honduras, just got a bit brighter as Joint Task Force-Bravo delivered 44 rechargeable batteries to the base Nov. 23.
The Honduran Infantry Battalion uses the large batteries to power its generators at night, while a solar-powered generator powers the base during the day.
The generators and batteries are the only means of power for this isolated Honduran base, said Capt. Michael Johnson, who works with J3 here. Unfortunately, the rechargeable batteries they already were becoming unserviceable.
"The batteries we delivered are heavy duty, made of nonhazardous material, and rechargeable, which will allow them to have electricity at night once again," Captain Johnson said.
In case of emergencies or in heavy weather conditions, these U.S. Southern Command-supplied batteries will also ensure the battalion has a reliable source of power, said Tech. Sgt. Eric Davis, who also works with J3 here.
JTF-Bravo has partnered with the Honduran military in other projects at Fuerte Mocoron in the past, including building a pole barn hangar. U.S. and Honduran servicemembers work together to improve military capabilities, Captain Johnson said.
"By increasing their capabilities, the Hondurans can enhance their ability to provide security and stability throughout their country," he said.
