JTF-Bravo, Honduran Airmen bring health fair to community

By Martin Chahin Joint Task Force-Bravo Public Affairs Office

Honduran Aviation Military Academy and 612th Air Base Squadron Airmen along with Joint Task Force-Bravo members here participated in a health fair in Villa de San Antonio Oct. 22.

Honduran Air Force medical brigade personnel established 25 clinics, which included pediatric, oncology, gynecology, dental, and general medical assistance for the Villa de San Antonio residents.

The Honduran medical professionals treated 2,710 patients to include more than 350 children.

"With instructions from the highest Honduran Air Force authorities, these brigades are being carried out throughout the country," said Col. Angel Leonel Lainez, director of the Aviation Military Academy. "This time it was the responsibility of the Aviation Military Academy to visit this community in coordination with Armando Velasquez, the Town Mayor, to bring health to its inhabitants."

"I extended an invitation to the members of Joint Task Force-Bravo to help us with piñatas," he said.

U.S. Airmen brought 10 piñatas and seven prizes as part of activities for the children who attended the Help Fair.

"We're always willing to support them in any way we can," said Capt. Kelly Stuart, the event organizer for the 612th ABS.

While the Honduran physicians assisted the parents, little ones had fun breaking piñatas.

"We have an excellent relationship with Joint Task Force-Bravo," Col. Lainez said. "We're like brothers and sisters. We have an even closer relationship with the 612th, because we're both Air Force."

This is one out of four free health fairs carried out by the Honduran Air Force during this year, which are directed toward the poorest people.

The Honduran Air Force will conduct the next health fair in the municipality of Meambar, Comayagua, where they expect to assist the population of that area with the same specialties they did at Villa de San Antonio.

Besides this medical assistance, they offered free haircuts and clothes were also donated.

"We really appreciate the collaboration from the Aviation Military Academy members for all the help provided to our population as well as the members of Joint Task Force-Bravo stationed at Palmerola," said Armando Velasquez, the Municipal Mayor.
