PUERTA LEMPIRA, GRACIAS A DIOS, Honduras –
Members of the U.S. Embassy in Honduras, including representatives from the Security Cooperation Office and the Defense Attaché Office, met with Honduran Joint Task Force commander, Colonel Flores, in Gracias a Dios Department on Feb. 13 to discuss JTF capabilities and recent activities.
Discussions focused on the JTF's efforts to enhance border security, combat illicit drug trafficking, and counter deforestation. Of particular interest were the activities of Honduran soldiers stationed throughout the department.
The meeting provided U.S. officials with a real-time update on the current security environment and military posture in the region. This information is crucial for informing senior U.S. leadership on the most effective ways to employ available resources and unique capabilities to support Honduras.
Following the meeting, the U.S. delegation, joined by representatives from Army Forces Battalion command and medical teams, toured a local clinic. The visit allowed the team to assess healthcare needs and identify potential gaps in existing resources. The group discussed the possibility of future Joint Task Force-Bravo led medical missions to the region.
Meetings and engagements like these are crucial to fostering an environment of information sharing in a joint operations area facing common threats. They demonstrate the U.S.’s continued and enduring commitment to working together towards a stronger, safer Honduras and Central American region.
