JTF-Bravo members depart for Army Ten Miler

By Tech. Sgt. Matthew McGovern Joint Task Force-Bravo Public Affairs

A team of 10 JTF-Bravo members are scheduled to compete in the annual Army Ten Miler race Oct. 9, at Washington D.C.

The race, beginning and ending at the Pentagon and running through the Nation's Capitol, will include military and civilian runners from all 50 states as well as participants from Brazil, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Denmark and the United Kingdom.

"It's my first time taking part in this exciting event," said Army Capt. Donta White, JTF-Bravo team member. "I'm looking forward to the challenge and the comradery of every competitor."
With nearly 30,000 registered runners, the race is one of the largest in the world.

"This race will be very memorable," said Navy Chief Warrant Officer Cyris Bernard, JTF-Bravo team member.

Warrant Officer Bernard is the fastest runner on the team and has competed in the Army Ten Miler before with a time of 58:40. He hopes to receive a time below 55 minutes and said everyone on his team should improve their times as well.

"I don't think anyone will be disappointed with their race time or the experience," Warrant Officer Bernard said. "Last year's JTF-B team ran a combined time of 5:01:21 and I think we will run a similar time this year."

Army Maj. David Eckley, JTF-Bravo team member, also hopes to improve his run time from 78:30 to under 75 minutes.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity to train and run this race again," Major Eckley said. "It was the most fun I've had on a run before."

The team trains three days a week and begins training at 5 a.m. The members dedicate a day to sprinting three and a half miles, six miles are completed on day two and day three consists of a nine to 12 mile run.

"I like putting in all the training and the anticipation and build up prior to the race," Warrant Officer Bernard said. "Traveling to new locations and a good race t-shirt is always nice too."

Other JTF-Bravo team members include Capt. Daniel Meadows, Capt. Mark Cleary, Capt. Russell Dionicia, 1st Lt. Njoya Chomilo, Chief Warrant Officer Adam Milliken, Tech. Sgt. Dante Sengstack and Senior Airman Joshua Klapak.
