Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras –
U.S. Army Col. Steven Gventer took command of Joint Task Force-Bravo, a task force under the United States Southern Command based out of Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, June 2, during a virtual change of command ceremony held at the Soto Cano Friendship Chapel.
The ceremony was presided virtually by U.S. Navy Admiral Craig Faller, commander of U.S. Southern Command who highlighted the importance of the task force during recent hurricane responses.
“Your response made a difference and saved thousands of lives, it won the hearts and minds of our partner nations,” said Faller. “That’s really the main mission of JTF-Bravo, to be able to respond rapidly and look for opportunities to show the best of the United States of America.”
Gventer, a Grapevine, Texas native, will lead the task force after serving as the Chief of Current Operations at the Army Futures Command, he is an experienced Commander, decorated combat leader and has significant experience working with partners and allies across the globe. He is a Distinguished Graduate of the U.S. Army War College.
“It’s a humbling experience to be selected to command America’s sons and daughters, but even more so a joint task force with the history, stellar performance and distinction of JTF-Bravo,” said Gventer. “I look forward to contributing to JTF-Bravo’s legacy.”
JTF-Bravo has been based out of Honduras for more than 37 years and works with partner nations to strengthen relationships and support SOUTHCOM operations throughout Central America, South America and the Caribbean, spanning from disaster relief and humanitarian assistance, to countering transnational organized crime and maintaining readiness.
