SOTO CANO AIR BASE, Honduras –
Nearly 30 medical personnel from Joint Task Force-Bravo will provide general medical care to Hondurans in Ojo de Agua and Choluteca, Honduras Nov. 30.
"We are working with our Honduran partners to train and educate so they can continue the health care regiment even after the mission is accomplished," said 1st Lt. Tyler Grunewald, the officer in charge of the medical readiness training exercise, known as a MEDRETE.
During the medical readiness and training exercise, medical professionals will treat illnesses including respiratory infections, skin infections, pneumonia, tuberculosis, diabetes and high blood pressure.
The MEDRETE began Nov. 29. So far, medical professionals have treated nearly 400 Hondurans.
In February, JTF-Bravo celebrated a 10-year partnership with Choluteca and in this period more than 2,000 people have been positively affected with medical assistance.
"At the end of the day, this is why I joined the Air Force," said Lt. Grunewald. "We're meeting the needs of a vulnerable population and the impact I have doing this far surpasses my 10 years in the civilian medical sector."
The professional exchange between U.S. and Honduran doctors and nurses will allow for improvement in patient treatment and enhance the U.S., Honduran partnership.
