Colonel Robert C. Snyder III is the Joint Task Force-Bravo Commander. In his previous assignment he was a United States Army War College fellow at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
He received his commission as an Infantry Officer from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at the University of California, Davis in 2003. He is a graduate of various military courses, including the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, Special Forces Qualification Course, College of Distance Education Command and Staff Program (Naval War College/JPME I), and Joint and Combined Warfighting School (JPME II).
His previous non-command assignments include Rifle Platoon Leader and Rifle Company Executive Officer in 4th Battalion (BN), 23rd Infantry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team; Group Assistant Operations Officer in 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne); BN Executive Officer, BN Operations Officer, and Group Operations Officer in 1st Capabilities Integration Group (Airborne); and Director of the Resolute Support Afghan National Army Territorial Force Coordination Cell.
His command assignments include Commander, Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha 1234, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne); Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne); Commander, 4th BN, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne); Commander, 3rd BN, 1st Capabilities Integration Group (Airborne); and Commander, Joint Task Force (JTF).
His combat assignments include Rifle Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in Iraq (AUG05-NOV06); Special Forces Detachment Commander in Afghanistan (DEC09-AUG10); JTF Operations Officer in Iraq (APR15-JUN15); JTF Operations Officer in Iraq (SEP17-MAR18); Director of the Resolute Support Afghan National Army Territorial Force Coordination Cell in Afghanistan (NOV18-MAY19); and JTF Commander in Iraq (OCT23-MAR24).
Colonel Snyder holds a Master of Science in Defense Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of California, Davis. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster (1OLC), Bronze Star Medal with 3OLC, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal with 1OLC, Army Commendation Medal with 2OLC, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal with 1OLC, Combat Infantryman Badge, Ranger Tab, Special Forces Tab, Military Free-Fall Jumpmaster Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, and foreign jump wings from Australia and the Netherlands.
