By Capt. Candice Allen Joint Task Force-Bravo Public Affairs

Joint Task Force-Bravo's preventive medicine hosted the Great American Smoke's "Walk Away for a Day" here Nov. 17.

This event encouraged those who smoke to stop smoking for a day.

Preventive medicine offered a six-week Tobacco Cessation program for anyone ready to quit. Additionally, they  will give personalized retainers for teeth whitening to the first 10 people who successfully complete the six-week program.

The American Cancer Society's Great American Smoke-out event grew out of a 1971 event in Randolph, Mass. The first national smoke-out was held in November 1977.
