Blackhawk assists USNS Comfort during humanitarian mission

CORINTO, Nicaragua — Aviation Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class Matthew Shaw directs a UH-60 Army Blackhawk helicopter performing Deck Landing Qualifications aboard hospital ship USNS Comfort here July 9 during Continuing Promise 2009 (CP09). The helicopter is assigned to Joint Task Force Bravo, U.S. Southern Command's forward-deployed response force stationed in Soto Cano AFB, Honduras, and is assisting CP09 teams with personnel movement and logistics here. CP09 combines U.S. military and interagency personnel, non-governmental organizations, civil service mariners, academic and partner nations to provide medical, dental, veterinary and engineering services afloat and ashore alongside host nation personnel. MIRA VALLE LA PAZ, Honduras - Students at Escuela Aspiracion del Valle take their lessons in near darkness because there are no lights in their classrooms. U.S. Marine Corps civil engineers brought running water to the schoo for the first time June 16. Crews ran water lines from a tower accross the street to the school's kitchen, bathrooms and to a drinking fountain as part of Beyond the Horizon.
